Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad age range and correctly report the peak for 16–20-year-olds (19 hours for males and 18 for females), as well as the low figures for people aged 51 and over. However, the overview is inaccurate: you say people aged 21–25 have the highest ratio, when their figures are 7 and 5, and the 16–20 group is highest. The claim that the 11–15 and 21–25 groups have the “same ratio” is also unclear and does not reflect their different values. Several figures are omitted, including the equal 4-hour figures for ages 26–30. To improve, give a precise overview of the peak and general decline with age, then compare the main figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing figures. Connectors such as “To start with” and “Moreover” help signal movement between points. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the overview incorrectly identifies the highest age group, and the discussion jumps from the peak to other age groups without a clear comparison pattern. “However” does not establish a meaningful contrast in the sentence about the 11–15 and 21–25 groups. Organise the details in a consistent sequence, such as from youngest to oldest, and use linking words only when they accurately show the relationship between figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary, including “age group,” “spent,” “highest,” and “reduced,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For example, “highest ratio” is not suitable for describing the largest number of hours, and “same ratio” does not clearly explain the comparison. There are also spelling errors such as “livining,” and phrases such as “hours invest on the internet” are unnatural. Use precise terms for the data and vary them carefully: describe figures as hours, amounts, or averages rather than population or ratio.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer constructions, including “where men and women had more population,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure and punctuation occur throughout: “overall” and “however” should be capitalised when beginning sentences, and the opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical construction. There are also problems with articles and number formatting, as in “from age16 to 20” and “4hours.” Some sentences are understandable, but the faulty longer constructions make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise writing clear subject–verb sentences for each comparison, then check capitalisation, spacing, articles, and punctuation.
