Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table depicts the information of how much time spent on the internet by European citizens of different ages.
Overall, the spending time on the internet has been decreased after the age of 21 years in both genders.
In terms of under 30 years, the male has the highest average hour spending compared to the female. Age between 11 to 15 years, male recorded at 8 hours and the female had accounted at 6 hours of time spent before increasing in hours from 8 to 19 of male and 6 hours to 18 hours of female. Age between 26 to 30 years both genders became at the same level at 4 hours time spending on the net.
Regarding above 30 years, female gender showed a significant growth on spending, became the highest average time spent. After 30 years of age, female accounted at 4 hours and the male had recorded at 3 hours of time spent. After 51 years, these figures decreased further more, decreasing from 4 to 3 hours of female and 3 to 2 hours of male.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the trends across age groups and the comparison between genders. However, the reporting of data is sometimes confusing or inaccurate. For instance, the statement that time 'decreased after the age of 21' is not clearly supported by the data provided in the table, and the description of the 11-15 age group is difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data points are cited with greater precision and that the overview clearly highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing individual figures. The summary is present but lacks a sharp focus on the most notable differences between the age categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the phrase 'Regarding above 30 years'. The progression of ideas between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making it difficult to track the comparison between male and female internet usage. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') would help create a smoother flow between the different age groups and genders. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively used to separate distinct trends.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There are several awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'spending time on the internet has been decreased' (should be 'time spent... has decreased') and 'became at the same level'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on repetitive phrasing like 'time spent' and 'average hour spending'. To improve, focus on using more varied verbs and nouns to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained constant', or 'a significant disparity'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the male has the highest average hour spending' (should be 'males had the highest average hours spent') and 'female accounted at 4 hours' (should be 'females accounted for 4 hours'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from achieving a higher score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and correct prepositional usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
