IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Generally, users aged 16–20 spent the most time on the Internet, while the 51+ age group spent the least. The average hours spent on the Internet by males and females were almost identical in all age groups.

The age group 16–20 spent the most hours surfing the Internet, with 19 hours for males and 18 hours for females. In contrast, the 51+ age group spent the least amount of time online, with an average of just 2 hours for males and 3 hours for females, respectively. The youngest group (11–15) had moderate Internet usage, with 8 hours for males and 6 hours for females. The second highest Internet users were the 21–25 age group, with a combined total of 12 hours, in which males spent 7 hours, compared to 5 hours for females.

The general trend indicates that younger age groups tended to use the Internet more than older age groups.
