Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the high usage among younger age groups and the decline in older groups. However, the analysis is somewhat limited. While you identify the trends, you could improve by providing more precise comparisons between the age groups and genders. For instance, you mention that 11-15 and 21-25 year olds spend similar time online, but you do not explicitly contrast these with the middle age groups. The overview is present but could be more comprehensive by highlighting the overall downward trend more clearly. The data points are generally accurate, but the report lacks a more analytical approach to the provided figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' helps guide the reader through the information. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The logical progression is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for an Academic Task 1 response, and the information is grouped in a way that makes sense, moving from the younger demographics to the older ones.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors that detract from the quality, such as 'popuer' (popular), 'amoung' (among), 'childern' (children), 'Whereass' (Whereas), 'rearly' (rarely), 'equvelent' (equivalent), 'noumber' (number), and 'equel' (equal). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While you attempt to use some descriptive language, the range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and use a wider variety of synonyms to describe data trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', or 'remain stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'male european' (should be 'male Europeans'), 'between the age of 11 to 15' (should be 'between the ages of 11 and 15'), and 'people who are more older' (should be 'older people'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Increasing the variety of complex structures and focusing on subject-verb agreement and pluralization would improve the score.
