Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 70 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have identified some main features, such as the high usage among teenagers and lower usage among those over 50, the analysis is severely underdeveloped. You have not provided a clear overview or sufficient data comparisons to satisfy the requirements of an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, you must ensure you meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive summary of the data presented in the table, including specific figures to support your observations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response lacks a clear structure. It consists of only a few sentences, and there is no evidence of paragraphing. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and somewhat mechanical (e.g., 'It is clearly stated that'). The logical progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the text and the lack of linking phrases to connect the observations. To improve, you should organize your response into a clear introduction, an overview, and distinct body paragraphs that group related data points together, using a wider range of cohesive devices to link your sentences and ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'INTERNENT' (Internet), 'MUST' (most), and 'COMPARTIVELY' (comparatively). The phrasing is often unnatural, such as 'human beings who are 50 plus'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to describe trends and data points more precisely. Focus on using accurate terminology for reporting statistics and avoid informal or imprecise language. Proofreading for basic spelling errors is also essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'THE GIVEN TABLE GIVE AN INFORMATION' (subject-verb agreement and article usage) and 'NUMBER OF BOYS BETWEEN 11-30 ARE SLIGHTLY MORE' (incomplete sentence). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. You need to work on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles. Incorporating a mix of simple and complex sentence structures will help improve your score, but accuracy must be prioritized first.
