Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the data and makes relevant comparisons. You successfully identified the peak usage age group (16-20) and noted the trend reversal in older age groups. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you mention that males generally spend more time online, you could improve by more clearly summarising the overall trend across all age groups. Some data points, such as the specific figures for the 31-51+ group, are described a bit vaguely as 'around 3 hours'. To reach a higher band, ensure all data is presented with precision and the overview highlights the most significant trends more distinctly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of data. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences often relies on simple structures like 'Male spent' or 'The table shows'. There is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the transition between the general overview and the specific age-group breakdown. Improving the variety of transition signals would enhance the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'spent' and 'shows'. While you successfully use terms like 'age group' and 'decreases', there is limited use of less common lexical items or collocations that would demonstrate a higher level of control. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'the less time' instead of 'the least time' and 'in the older age' instead of 'in older age groups'. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adverbs would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the internet' vs 'internet'), prepositions ('at the age of' vs 'in the age group of'), and subject-verb agreement ('Male spent' instead of 'Males spent'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods and unnecessary capitalisation. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall clarity and accuracy of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors is essential.
