Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task but lacks a clear overview of the main trends. While you mention specific data points, you fail to synthesize the information effectively. For instance, you describe individual rows rather than grouping the data to highlight the overall decline in internet usage as age increases. The summary is also incomplete, as it misses the 21-30, 31-40, and 41-50 age brackets, instead grouping them vaguely. To improve, ensure you identify the most significant features—such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the steady decline thereafter—and provide a clear, concise overview paragraph that summarizes these main trends without listing every single figure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'However', but the transitions between sentences feel repetitive. The paragraphing is also slightly unbalanced, with the introduction and body paragraphs being quite short. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus. Currently, the information feels like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report that guides the reader through the data logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'using internet' and 'age criteria'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as '14 hours combine' and 'too much for 18 hours', which sound unnatural. To improve, try to use more sophisticated synonyms for 'usage' (e.g., 'consumption', 'engagement') and vary your sentence structures to avoid repeating the same verbs. Expanding your range of descriptive language will help you report the data more accurately and fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'The table is showing' should be 'The table shows', and '14 hours combine' should be 'a combined total of 14 hours'. There are also issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'in 51+ years old people' instead of 'for people aged 51 and over'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
