Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have attempted to report the data, the overview is confusing and inaccurate, stating 'maximum hours spent by male whereas the minimum hours spent by male', which is contradictory. You have included most of the data points, but the lack of a clear, accurate summary of trends and the failure to reach the word count limit prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and double-check your data reporting for accuracy and clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as 'Incereasly' at the start of a sentence, which does not function as a logical transition. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between age groups. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Similarly', 'Furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic structures like 'spent hours on internet'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'European peoples' instead of 'Europeans' or 'European people'. The word 'Incereasly' is a spelling error that hinders clarity. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a more varied range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained constant', or 'a significant decline', and ensure you use precise terminology when referring to the data provided in the table.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'age groups spent hours'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'In age groups of 26-30 gives the same hours'). The sentence structures are mostly simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct word order, and proofreading for common errors like missing prepositions and incorrect verb forms. Practising complex sentences, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will also help improve your score.
