Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by summarizing the provided data, but it fails to accurately interpret the information. The student misidentifies the age groups and misreports the data points (e.g., claiming 16-20 year olds spend less time than others, when the data shows they are the highest users). Furthermore, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the main trends, which is essential for Task 1. The information is presented as a list of observations rather than a cohesive analysis of the data. To improve, focus on identifying the highest and lowest values and grouping trends rather than listing every data point individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'the first refers', 'the second group', and 'moreover'. The logical progression between sentences is occasionally weak, as the transition between the age groups feels disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing could be more effectively used to group related trends (e.g., comparing high-usage groups versus low-usage groups) rather than just following the order of the table rows.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'spend', 'time', and 'internet'. There are inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the youngsters which are approximately about 16 to 20 years old they usually spent less time in internet'. The phrase 'less time in internet' is unnatural; 'less time on the internet' would be more appropriate. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision, and the student struggles with basic collocations related to data reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This table have three groups', 'teen age boys are 8 hours'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'they usually spent'), and awkward sentence construction. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Complex structures are attempted but are often faulty, such as 'The youngsters which are approximately about 16 to 20 years old they usually spent...'. Improving control over basic sentence structure and tense consistency is necessary to reach a higher band.
