Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the lower usage in other categories. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing figures rather than synthesizing the information effectively. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, and the interpretation of the data is occasionally inaccurate (e.g., stating 20-25 year olds spend 'less time than others' when the data shows lower figures for other groups). To improve, focus on grouping data points to highlight trends rather than reporting every single figure individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is repetitive and sometimes misused, such as the frequent use of 'on the other hand' or 'on the other side' where they do not logically contrast the preceding information. Additionally, the paragraphing is inconsistent, with the body paragraph containing a long list of data points that makes it difficult to follow the flow of information. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing such as 'spend time' and 'use internet'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the most time spending on internet' instead of 'the highest internet usage'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'figures', 'proportion', 'peak', 'decline', and 'fluctuate'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the usage of internet'), incorrect sentence structure ('the time is given in hours. and they divided it'), and punctuation issues (lack of capitalization at the start of sentences). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for higher band scores. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
