Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('and 50'). While you have attempted to select and report main features, the lack of completion means that the data is not fully summarised, and comparisons are not consistently made across all age groups. To improve, ensure you complete your analysis of all data points provided in the table and provide a more comprehensive overview that synthesises the trends rather than just listing individual figures. The current response is too brief to fully address the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response uses basic paragraphing, but the logical flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and repetitive way (e.g., 'Firstly', 'furthermore'). There are issues with referencing, as the connection between the data points and the categories is sometimes unclear. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that the progression of information is logical. The abrupt ending also disrupts the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, often relying on the words provided in the prompt. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'groupe', 'yers', 'udults', and 'applie'. These errors, combined with the limited range, make the writing feel basic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology to describe data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure that you are using accurate spelling for common terms like 'adults' and 'years'. Expanding your vocabulary will help you describe the trends more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the teenager section are using'), incorrect word forms, and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of numbers and units. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Practice using complex sentences by combining related ideas with conjunctions or relative clauses, and proofread carefully to correct basic errors in tense and pluralisation.
