IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table illustrates the minimum number of hours spent on the Internet by European men and women across different age groups.

To begin with, among the 11–15 age group, males spent approximately 8 hours online, which is slightly higher than females at 6 hours. The 16–20 age group showed the greatest interest in using the Internet, with men averaging 19 hours and women close behind at 18 hours. In contrast, individuals born between 2000 and 2004 demonstrated less engagement, with men spending 7 hours and women only 5 hours.

On the other hand, the least interested group was those aged 26 to 51 and above, who devoted just 4 hours for men and 3 hours for women.

Overall, it can be observed that Internet usage declines steadily as age increases. The highest usage was recorded among the 16–20 age group, while the lowest was among those aged 51 and above.
