Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the general decline in later years. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the trends. While you mention that males generally spend more time online, the comparison between age groups is slightly repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure you group the data more logically rather than listing figures for each age bracket individually. The summary of the data is accurate, but it lacks the analytical depth required to fully highlight the most significant trends or contrasts across the entire dataset.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'While those aged above 51+ spent the less time' is grammatically awkward, and the use of 'Similarly' to introduce the data for the thirties group is not entirely logical as the trend is not a direct similarity. Paragraphing is present, but the progression of ideas between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used to show logical relationships between data points would significantly improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'spent... on internet' and 'age group'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'spent the less time' instead of 'spent the least amount of time' and 'internet use the rise' instead of 'internet usage rose'. To improve, try to incorporate more varied verbs and nouns related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined', or 'proportion'. Using a wider range of synonyms for 'time' and 'people' would also help demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Male spent 8 hours'), incorrect preposition usage ('at the age of 16-20'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'in the older age females are using more then males'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of full stops and capitalisation. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and correct article placement would be beneficial.
