Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the lower usage among older adults. However, the overview is somewhat confusingly phrased, particularly the sentence 'the average of time spent by both categories of age 51+ people', which lacks a clear verb or comparison. While the report identifies key trends, the presentation of data is occasionally repetitive and lacks a sophisticated synthesis. The inclusion of specific data points is accurate, but the overall structure of the summary could be more effectively organised to highlight the most significant trends rather than listing data group by group.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'while' and 'whereas'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the overview paragraph. The progression of ideas is present, but the lack of varied linking words makes the text feel like a list of facts rather than a cohesive analytical report. Improving the use of referencing and transition signals would significantly enhance the flow of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'spent time', 'people', and 'usage'. Phrases such as 'Teen age people' and 'men group' are slightly unnatural. While the student successfully communicates the data, there is little attempt to use less common lexical items or more sophisticated collocations related to data interpretation (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained constant'). The repetition of 'spent' and 'time' throughout the text limits the lexical range, keeping the score in the mid-range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('on internet', 'of age 16-20'), incorrect pluralisation ('age group people'), and awkward phrasing ('this time is maximum than all other'). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are inconsistent. While the meaning is generally clear and the errors do not impede communication, the frequency of these slips prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is recommended.
