Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the subsequent decline. However, the report lacks an overview paragraph, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. The information is presented as a chronological list of data points rather than a synthesized summary. While the key trends are identified, the lack of a clear structure and the absence of an introductory summary statement limit the achievement. To improve, you should group the data by trends rather than listing every age bracket sequentially.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of logical progression; the text reads like a list of sentences rather than a cohesive report. Cohesive devices are minimal and repetitive (e.g., 'Then', 'Now'). The use of referencing is also weak, making the connection between ideas mechanical. To improve, you must use paragraphing to separate the introduction/overview from the body paragraphs and employ a wider range of linking words to show the relationship between the data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'spends an average of' and 'decreases' are used repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'addicted age' and 'male gender/female gender', which are not natural in this context. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should aim to use more varied verbs and nouns to describe trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'decline', 'peak', and 'remain stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, such as 'children... spends' (should be 'spend') and 'female spends' (should be 'females spend'). Punctuation is also problematic, with several instances of missing capital letters at the start of sentences and incorrect spacing around punctuation marks. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on basic subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with a full stop.
