IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table compares the average number of hours spend on the internet every week by european people in different age groups, divided into males and females.

Overall, it is clear that young people aged 16 to 20 spend the highest amount of time online. In contrast, the oldest age group spend the least amount of time on the internet.

In detail, teenagers aged 16 to 20 use the internet the most with males spending 19 hours and females spending 18 hours per week. For the younger group aged 11 to 15 boys spend 8 hours and girls spend 6 hours. However, after the age of 20 internet use drops sharply. Men aged 21 to 25 spend 7 hours online, while women spend 5 hours.

For older groups, the hours very low. In the 26 to 30 groups, both genders spend 4 hours online per week. For the oldest group aged 51 and over, males only 2 hours and females 3 hours.
