Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons between age groups and genders. The overview is clear, highlighting the general trend that males spend more time on the internet and that the 16-20 age group is the most active. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, relying heavily on listing figures rather than synthesizing the data. While the key features are present, the analysis could be more sophisticated by grouping data points more effectively to highlight trends rather than just reporting individual statistics for every category.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on males and females respectively. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The structure is sufficient for the task, but it lacks the sophisticated, unobtrusive linking required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey the necessary information clearly. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'considerably spend more time' (should be 'spend considerably more time') and 'second most hours spent is mention in the report'. While the student attempts to use descriptive language, the range is somewhat limited and relies on basic structures. To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing when describing data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'age group of 11-15 age males' (redundant) and 'same spending 4 hours is accounted for' (awkward construction). Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are occasionally inconsistent, such as '3hours' (missing space) and 'is mention' (should be 'is mentioned'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
