Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the highest usage among teenagers and the lowest among the 51+ age group. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, listing data points rather than synthesising them into a more analytical overview. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data is grouped more logically rather than simply listing each age bracket sequentially. While you have included all necessary information, the analysis lacks a more sophisticated comparison between the age groups to fully highlight the trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. There is a logical progression from the overview to the specific data points. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, you rely heavily on simple sentence structures to present data. To improve, try using more varied linking words and transition phrases such as 'In contrast,' 'Conversely,' or 'Furthermore' to connect your ideas more fluidly. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be more sophisticated to avoid a 'list-like' feel.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You repeat phrases like 'spent... hours on the Internet' and 'amount of hours' multiple times, which limits the range. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and more precise collocations. For instance, instead of repeating 'spent', you could use 'devoted to', 'allocated to', or 'logged on for'. There are also minor issues with word choice, such as 'highest numbers count of hours', which is slightly unnatural. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will significantly improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'different groups of age' (should be 'age groups'), 'in 16-20 years old' (should be 'aged 16-20'), and 'the lowest amount of hours' (should be 'the lowest number of hours'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and preposition errors, such as the comma placement in the first paragraph. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing data. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move up the band scale.
