Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 78 words, it is severely underdeveloped. It fails to provide an overview of the data or a summary of the main trends. Furthermore, the content is limited to a repetitive listing of figures for three age groups, ignoring the rest of the data provided in the prompt. The lack of a clear structure and the failure to address the task requirements fully result in a low band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks paragraphing and is written as a single, run-on sentence. There is no logical progression of ideas, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, relying almost exclusively on the word 'whereas'. The lack of punctuation makes the text difficult to follow, and there is no clear introduction or conclusion to guide the reader through the data. The overall arrangement is not coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. The student uses the same phrases ('spent... on phones', 'whereas') throughout the text. There is no attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'peak', or 'decline'. Additionally, there are errors in capitalization, such as 'european' and 'internet', and the terminology is inconsistent, switching between 'phones' and 'internet' without clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting of a single, long, run-on sentence. There is a lack of proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to read. Tense usage is inconsistent, switching between 'spent' and 'spend' within the same context. The sentence structure is simplistic and lacks the complexity required for higher bands. Frequent errors in basic sentence construction and punctuation impede the clarity of the information provided.
