Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the highest and lowest age groups. However, the reporting is somewhat disorganized and repetitive. For instance, the 16-20 age group is mentioned multiple times with varying figures, and the data for other groups is presented in a list-like fashion rather than being synthesized into a clear, comparative analysis. The overview is present but lacks a clear summary of the trends across the age spectrum. To improve, ensure that data points are grouped logically and that comparisons are made between categories rather than simply listing figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, particularly the frequent use of 'followed by' and 'age group of'. Some sentences are poorly linked, making the flow of information feel choppy. For example, the final paragraph repeats information already stated in the previous section, which hinders the logical development of the response. Improving the variety of linking words and avoiding redundant restatements would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'highest proportion' and 'lowest proportion' are used repeatedly, and the term 'proportion' is used incorrectly to describe raw hours. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and precise terminology, such as 'the most significant amount of time' or 'the least time-consuming age bracket', while ensuring that the words chosen accurately reflect the data provided.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles ('age group of 16-20'), incorrect verb forms ('spent' instead of 'spend'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are awkward, such as 'age group of 16-20 recorded for 27 hours', which is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would help improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
