Average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The table illustrate the average hours spent on the internet by different aged groups of European people. In this, they explained all about in which age of people spent more time on internet or also show which aged group spent less time on internet.

Overall, people aged 16-20 year are spent more time on internet by male and female. Both are spent equal time on internet. On the other hand, people who's aged is more than 51 they spent less time on internet but in these aged people females spent more time on internet rather than males.

Looking at the younger aged group 11-15 males are spent more time on internet and females spent only 6 hours which are less. in 21-25 aged group males are spent more time on internet rather than females.

but in aged 31-50 group females are spent more time on internet rather than males.

As I seen in tables more aged group people females are spent more time on internet rather than males. but in younger ages males spent more time on internet rather than females.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the table, such as the age groups and gender comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For instance, the report mentions that 16-20 year olds spend more time on the internet but fails to provide the specific data points to support this. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated. While the response addresses the task, it lacks the detailed reporting and data-driven comparisons required for a higher band. The information is presented in a somewhat repetitive manner, focusing on general trends rather than specific, well-selected data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Transitions like 'On the other hand' and 'Looking at' are used, but the connection between sentences is often mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing does not fully support the progression of ideas. The conclusion is essentially a restatement of the body paragraphs rather than a synthesis of the data. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrases such as 'spent more time on internet' and 'aged group'. There is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing data or trends. The word choice is often inaccurate, such as 'The table illustrate' (should be 'illustrates') and 'in these aged people'. To improve, you should incorporate more precise verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'a significant proportion', or 'the majority'. The current range is just enough to convey the basic meaning but lacks the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement and tense usage. Examples include 'people aged 16-20 year are spent' (should be 'spend') and 'As I seen in tables'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there are very few attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and improper use of commas. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the text difficult to follow, though the overall meaning remains clear enough for the reader to understand the intended message.
