Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as identifying the highest and lowest values for both genders. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview of the trends. The student mentions specific figures but fails to synthesize the information effectively to highlight significant comparisons or patterns across age groups. Furthermore, the inclusion of specific activities like 'social media' or 'mobile' is not supported by the prompt's description of the table, which only mentions 'average hours spent on the Internet'. This suggests a lack of careful attention to the provided data labels.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into three paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'significantly,16 to 20 year old' and 'In additional'. The referencing is also unclear at times, and the transition between sentences feels disjointed. The lack of sophisticated linking words makes the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic structures like 'used' and 'spent'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'European individual of different age and gender groups' and 'the total number of age groups exactly six'. The student struggles with accurate word choice, often using words that do not fit the context of a data report. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise reporting verbs and nouns, such as 'allocated', 'devoted', 'figures', or 'proportions', rather than repeating simple verbs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the number of male groups... spent', 'females are use'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure (e.g., 'the total number of age groups exactly six'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing after commas and periods. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with very few attempts at complex grammatical forms. Improving basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
