Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but fails to accurately report the data. There are significant inaccuracies in the figures cited, such as claiming 16-20 year olds spent '19-18 hours' and 21-25 year olds spent '7 to 5 hours', which misrepresents the provided information. The overview is present but lacks clarity due to these factual errors. Furthermore, the response introduces irrelevant terminology like 'bourgeois' and confuses the data categories (e.g., mentioning gender when the table only specifies age groups). To improve, you must ensure that the data extracted from the visual aid is precise and that you only report the information explicitly presented in the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'According to the data' and 'As can be seen', they are sometimes used incorrectly or lead to confusing sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when comparing age groups. The paragraphing is present, but the internal logic within the paragraphs is weak due to the inaccurate data reporting and grammatical errors that disrupt the flow of information. Improving the logical connection between sentences and ensuring that comparisons are clearly linked to specific data points will enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and occasionally inappropriate for an academic report. The use of the word 'bourgeois' is contextually incorrect and confusing. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the largest 16 to 20-year-old Europeans individuals' and 'lowest hours of uses internet'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using precise, academic vocabulary to describe trends and avoid using words that do not fit the formal tone of an IELTS Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('older individuals who crosses 50 they uses less'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures ('by age of the 11-15 children spent'). The range of structures is limited, and the errors are persistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on fundamental grammar, particularly verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, is essential for improvement.
