Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the high usage in the 16-20 age group and the lower usage in older groups. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of trends, which is essential for Task 1. The data interpretation is occasionally inaccurate; for instance, stating that 16-20-year-olds spend 19 hours a day on the internet is logically impossible given there are only 24 hours in a day and this implies almost no sleep or other activities. The response would benefit from a more analytical approach to grouping the data rather than simply listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in which' and 'followed by'. The logical progression between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, making the flow feel somewhat disjointed. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, such as grouping the highest and lowest users separately.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'spciety' (spelling error), 'contributing their quater day', and 'gives their less time'. The phrasing 'investing their time' is used repeatedly, which limits the range. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'allocate', 'proportion', 'significant', or 'marginal', and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'males are again got the position'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward sentence structures. The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. There are also missing articles and pluralization errors, such as 'different age of individual' instead of 'different age groups'. Improving your control over basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would significantly enhance your score.
