The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The table illustrates the average number of hours spent on the Internet by European males and females across six different age groups.

Overall, it is evident that Internet usage is highest among people aged 16–20, whereas those aged 51 and above spend the least amount of time online. Furthermore, males generally spend more time on the Internet than females in the younger age groups.

The 16–20 age group records by far the highest Internet usage, with males spending an average of 19 hours online compared with 18 hours for females. For instance, among those aged 11–15, males spend 8 hours online, while females spend 6 hours. Additionally, men aged 21–25 spend 7 hours on the Internet compared with only 5 hours for women.

Internet usage declines considerably among the older groups. Both males and females aged 26–30 spend an average of 4 hours online. In contrast, females aged 31–50 spend 4 hours online, compared with 3 hours for males. Finally, among those aged 51 and above, the figures fall to just 2 hours for men and 3 hours for women.
