Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. While you identify the highest and lowest age groups, the reporting of the data is occasionally inaccurate. For example, you state the 21-25 group spent a total of 12 hours, but the data shows 7 and 5, which is correct, yet you later state the 51+ group spent 5 hours, which contradicts the visual data provided. Furthermore, the grouping of information is slightly disjointed, and the comparison between age groups could be more analytical rather than just listing figures. To improve, ensure you double-check the data points and focus on highlighting significant trends or notable differences between the genders across all categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'After that' and 'Third we have' are used to transition between points, but they lack variety and sophistication. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using more varied linking words or relative clauses to connect related ideas. While the overall progression is discernible, the lack of sophisticated cohesive devices limits the score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'spent their time' and 'spent most of their time', which limits the range of your lexical resource. There are also some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'in term of hours' instead of 'in terms of hours' and 'above than 51' instead of 'above 51'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'allocated', 'devoted', or 'figures indicate', and avoid repeating the same verbs throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while they do not completely impede communication, are noticeable. Examples include '16 to 20 age group spent' (missing 'the'), 'people with age above than 51' (awkward phrasing), and 'spent least' (missing 'the'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles when referring to specific groups or data points. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would also help elevate your score.
