Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant comparisons between age groups and genders. The overview is clear and captures the primary patterns in the data. However, the report is essentially a list of figures. To reach a higher band, you should group the data more analytically rather than listing every single data point for each age bracket. For example, you could group the age ranges that show similar trends (e.g., the decline after age 20) to provide a more synthesized analysis. Ensure that all data points are accurate; for instance, you mentioned '11-15' but the table likely shows '11-15' as a single group, and your description of the data is generally accurate but lacks a more sophisticated summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'in addition' and 'furthermore' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel a bit stilted. Additionally, the transition between sentences within the body paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, try to vary your linking words and use referencing more effectively to connect ideas across sentences rather than just listing facts sequentially. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the paragraphs needs more variety in cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'spent... hours on the internet' and 'males/females'. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider range of synonyms and more precise vocabulary. For example, instead of repeating 'spent hours', you could use 'devoted time to', 'logged on for', or 'usage levels'. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'on webs' and 'on world web', which are not standard English collocations. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and nouns will help you convey the information with more precision and style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as missing articles ('at age 11-15'), inconsistent verb tenses ('spend' vs 'spent'), and punctuation issues (spacing before commas). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the information, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, try to incorporate more varied sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or participial phrases, to demonstrate better control over complex grammar.
