Student answer (Band 5.5)
The table illustrates the average time spend online by European people of different age groups.
The most time spent online is by the people of age group 16 to 20. On the other hand, elders spend less time on the internet. Furthermore, males in every age group spend more time online except the age group of 51+.
The most significant figure of time spent online is of age group of teenagers that is 19 hours and 18 hours by males and females respectively. While males of age group 11-15 and 21 to 25 spend 8 and 7 hours respectively, which is less than the time spend by females that is 6 and 5 hours respectively.
The time spent on the internet remains constant in both males and females of age group 26-30. However, a slight increase of time spent online is shown in females of age group 31-50 than in males of the same age group.
Overall, people of age less than 25 spend more time on internet as compared to the people of age 26+.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the high usage among teenagers and the general decline with age. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, you state that males spend more time online in every group except 51+, but then contradict this by noting that females spend more time in the 11-15 and 21-25 groups. Furthermore, the data interpretation for the 31-50 age group is slightly inaccurate based on standard table reading. While you have identified key trends, the lack of precision in reporting the figures and the contradictory statements prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure that your comparisons are mathematically accurate and clearly supported by the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, moving from an introduction to specific age-group comparisons and a final summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the progression within the paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to create a more cohesive narrative. The paragraphing is appropriate for a report, but the internal structure of the body paragraphs needs more refinement to ensure a smoother logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe trends and make comparisons. You use terms like 'significant figure', 'constant', and 'slight increase' effectively. However, there is some repetition of basic phrasing, such as 'time spent online' and 'age group'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'The most time spent online is by the people', which is slightly unnatural. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate a wider range of synonyms and more precise collocations to describe data trends, such as 'fluctuate', 'marginal', or 'predominant'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. For example, 'The most time spent online is by the people of age group 16 to 20' is clunky, and 'time spend' should be 'time spent'. There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in the age group of 51+'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
