Student answer (Band 5.5)
The table shows data about the usual time spent using internet by western people of various age groups.
A clear trend that emerges from the data is that males were mostly dominant in watch time in all age groups. Moreover, one of the main noticeable trends is that as the people aged their watch time decreased time-to-time.
Firstly, the males in their teenage were using internet for about 8 hours whereas females were less interested in using internet. Additionally, in the age of 16-20 both boys and girls were on internet most of the time with an average of about 19 hours for men and 18 hours for women. Whereas the age at which they had to work their internet watch-time got less.
Meanwhile, the only age of 26-30 years their watch time hour was same of about 4 hours on average. Although, at the age between 31-50 ladies were found using internet more than boys. But, after age of 50+ there watch-time was at the lowest point of about 2-3 hours at most.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the general downward trend with age and the gender differences. However, the report lacks precision. For example, the student mentions '8 hours' for teenagers but does not specify the age range, and the description of the 16-20 age group is slightly inaccurate based on typical data interpretation. The summary is somewhat over-generalized, and the lack of specific data points for some categories makes the report feel incomplete. To improve, ensure that key figures are clearly linked to their respective age groups and that the overview highlights the most significant trends more accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally awkward, such as 'Whereas the age at which they had to work their internet watch-time got less.' The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, and the transition between the general overview and the specific data points could be smoother. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when referring back to 'their' without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. The student repeatedly uses the phrase 'watch time' and 'internet watch-time,' which is not the most natural collocation for internet usage. There are also some word choice errors, such as 'western people' (which is vague) and 'time-to-time' (which is used incorrectly here). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is a lack of sophisticated or topic-specific terminology that would demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the only age of 26-30 years their watch time hour was same' and 'there watch-time was at the lowest point.' These errors, including incorrect pronoun usage ('there' instead of 'their') and awkward phrasing, occur throughout the text. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions in descriptive writing.
