Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all requirements of the task. You have identified the main features, such as the peak in internet usage among the 16-20 age group and the subsequent decline. Comparisons between genders are made throughout, which is a key requirement. The data is accurately reported, and the overview provides a clear summary of the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that the distinction between 'percentage' and 'hours' is precise, as your introduction mentions 'percentage' while the data clearly refers to 'average hours'. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing the data. Cohesive devices such as 'in contrast', 'additionally', and 'while' are used to link ideas effectively. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by minor punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'overall ,internet', '19 hours per week for males and 18 hours for females.the 11-15 age group'). Improving the consistency of spacing and punctuation would enhance the professional appearance and readability of the text, moving it toward a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demographics', 'counterparts', and 'significantly'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'amoung', 'teenaagers', 'catagories', and 'braket', which are distracting. While these do not impede communication, they prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure careful proofreading to eliminate basic spelling mistakes. The use of 'levels off' and 'declines further' shows a good attempt at describing trends accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Younger demographics account for the highest amount of time spent online' and 'beyond age 30, internet time declines further to between 2 and 4 hours weekly'. There are several grammatical slips, particularly regarding punctuation and capitalization (e.g., starting sentences with lowercase letters). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these mechanical errors limits the score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring consistent attention to basic grammar rules will help improve your score in this criterion.
