Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the general decline in older age groups. However, the overview is weak; stating that 'Males has a highest position' is inaccurate as the data shows females often spend equal or more time in certain categories (e.g., 32-50 and 51+). The reporting is somewhat mechanical, listing figures without sufficient synthesis or comparison. To improve, focus on grouping data points more effectively and ensuring the overview accurately reflects the overall trends rather than making sweeping, incorrect generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often repetitive and lacks variety. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'The other one is' and 'The third is'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas feels like a list of data points rather than a cohesive analysis. To reach a higher band, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Conversely', 'Furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus rather than just listing numbers.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on phrases like 'spent... hours' and 'used... hours'. There are several errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'european peoples' (should be 'Europeans') and 'males has a highest position'. The range of vocabulary is limited to the specific task requirements, with little attempt to use more sophisticated or varied synonyms to describe trends or data. Expanding your vocabulary to include terms like 'fluctuate', 'peak', 'decline', and 'comparatively' would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Males has', 'females has used') and the incorrect use of apostrophes ('male's', 'female's', 'houres'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation hinders the overall quality of the writing. Focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and avoiding unnecessary apostrophes in plural nouns.
