Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, such as the peak usage in the 16-20 age group and the gender-based trends. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary statement that synthesizes the data effectively. While you mention specific figures, the analysis is somewhat repetitive and could benefit from more precise comparisons between the age groups. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide a clear, distinct overview paragraph that highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing data points. The information is generally accurate, but the lack of a cohesive summary limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. You rely on simple transitions, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the first and second paragraphs is abrupt. Using a wider range of cohesive devices, such as 'In contrast,' 'Conversely,' or 'Furthermore,' would improve the flow. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'every age category after 20 years,' which could be phrased more naturally to improve the logical flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sex segregated,' 'trends,' and 'categories.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'vivid user' is not the correct collocation; 'frequent user' or 'active user' would be more appropriate. Additionally, 'male are more prone to use' is slightly awkward; 'males are more likely to use' would be more natural. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are contextually accurate for describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'Teenagers... has the highest number' contains a subject-verb agreement error (should be 'have'). Similarly, 'male are more prone' should be 'males are more prone.' There are also issues with articles and pluralization, such as 'equal number of male and female' (should be 'an equal number'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and plural forms.
