Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the data, identifying the highest usage among younger age groups and the downward trend for older groups. However, the report is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the description of age brackets and gender comparisons. The data interpretation is generally accurate, but the summary lacks a clear overview or a synthesis of the most significant trends. The inclusion of specific figures is helpful, but the structure of the comparisons could be more refined to highlight the key differences more effectively. The response addresses the prompt but lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the logical progression between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'From ages...'). Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be improved with better linking phrases. The paragraphing is functional, but the transition between the general trend and the specific data points lacks sophistication. Overall, the text is coherent, but the cohesion is somewhat basic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the necessary information about internet usage. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive, with frequent use of the same phrases such as 'internet use' and 'spent on internet'. There is little attempt to use less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. While the meaning is always clear, the lack of variety in word choice prevents the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on using synonyms and more precise terminology related to data reporting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Information... are shown' should be 'is shown'; 'the number of internet users have decreased' should be 'has decreased'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some awkward phrasings, such as the unnecessary comma in 'while, the number'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
