Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features and making comparisons. However, the data presentation is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the statement that the 16-20 age group had a 'negligible difference' is vague, and the description of the 31-51+ age group is confusingly phrased. While the main trends are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the figures and the failure to clearly distinguish between the age categories hinder the clarity of the report. To improve, ensure that data points are cited accurately and that the comparison between groups is structured more logically to highlight the key trends effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'LOOKING FROM AN OVERALL' and 'GETTING TO THE DETAILS', which are not standard academic phrases. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the final paragraph where the grouping of data is unclear. Referencing is also inconsistent, making it difficult to track which figures belong to which specific age group. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words and ensuring a smoother flow between sentences would significantly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing such as 'spent their time on internet'. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'ILLUSTRATE' (should be 'illustrates'), 'NEGLIBLE' (negligible), and 'DIFFERNCE' (difference). The attempt to use more formal language is evident, but the lack of control over collocations and word forms limits the score. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained constant', or 'a significant proportion', and ensure accurate spelling throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('THE GIVEN TABLE CHART ILLUSTRATE'), incorrect tense usage ('WAS SEEMED'), and awkward sentence construction ('IT EAS EXPLICATED AT 4'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors in basic grammar and syntax impede the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on sentence structure, verb forms, and proofreading for basic errors will help improve your accuracy.
