Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but struggles with clarity and accuracy. While it identifies some age groups, the interpretation of the figures is often confusing or contradictory. For example, the statement regarding 'late teens' and 'early adolescents' is difficult to follow, and the comparison between male and female data is muddled. The overview provided is somewhat disjointed and does not clearly highlight the most significant trends or differences across the age groups. To improve, ensure that the data points are accurately transcribed and that the comparisons are logically structured to help the reader understand the main features of the table.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' is mechanical and does not effectively link the ideas. Many sentences are run-on or lack clear punctuation, which makes the flow of information difficult to follow. Referencing is often unclear, particularly when comparing age groups and genders, leading to confusion. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence clearly relates to the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic phrasing such as 'average hours spent' and 'people'. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'European public' instead of 'Europeans' or 'European population', and 'expended on internet' instead of 'spent on the internet'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of synonyms and more precise collocations related to data reporting, such as 'account for', 'fluctuate', or 'a significant proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect preposition usage, and sentence fragments. For instance, 'first rank achieve by late teen male' is grammatically incorrect and unclear. The sentence structures are largely simple or poorly constructed complex sentences, which lack accuracy. Punctuation is also problematic, with misuse of semicolons and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, while also practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions in a formal context.
