Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all age groups and provides data for both genders, satisfying the requirement to report main features and make comparisons. However, the analysis is quite mechanical, simply listing the figures for each age bracket rather than synthesizing the information effectively. While the overview identifies the peak usage (16-20) and the lowest usage (50+), the report lacks a more analytical approach to the trends. To reach a higher band, you should group data more logically and highlight significant patterns or anomalies rather than presenting a chronological list of every data point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between sentences often relies on simple repetition of the subject rather than varied linking words or referencing. The paragraphing is logical, but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved by using more sophisticated transition signals to connect the comparisons between male and female data points more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You frequently use basic verbs like 'spend' and 'use', which makes the writing repetitive. There are also minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'average time span of male' instead of 'average time spent by males'. To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of synonyms and more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'figures', 'proportions', or 'duration'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include inconsistent verb tenses (e.g., 'male spend' vs 'female spent'), missing articles (e.g., 'in age 11-15'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'equal the amount in female'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage when describing data would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
