Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the table and makes relevant comparisons between age groups and genders. However, the reporting of data is sometimes unclear or inaccurate. For instance, stating that the 31-50 age group has '3 duration of male and 4 of female' is confusing, as the table shows 3 and 4 hours respectively, but the phrasing is awkward. Additionally, the overview is slightly vague. While the main trends are identified, the summary could be more precise by highlighting the peak usage in the 16-20 age group more clearly as the most significant feature. The response meets the requirements but lacks the analytical depth expected for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Respectively age group of 26-30' are grammatically incorrect and do not function well as transitions. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the distinction between the 31-50 and 51+ groups becomes muddled. While there is a logical progression from younger to older age groups, the flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated linking words, which limits the overall coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of unnatural word choice, such as 'gives few times on internet' instead of 'spends little time on the internet' and 'man invest 7' instead of 'males spent 7 hours'. The repetition of basic verbs like 'spent' and 'use' limits the range. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the errors in collocation (e.g., 'contributed 8') occasionally impede the clarity of the data being presented. To improve, the student should focus on more accurate collocations and a wider range of reporting verbs.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, such as 'The table provide' and 'children, male clearly spends'. There are also errors with articles ('the internet', 'the teenager age') and prepositions. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. The student needs to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms.
