Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the high usage among the 16-20 age group and the lower usage among the 51+ group. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the text mentions '7 hours' for the 21-25 age group, which contradicts the earlier statement that they spent '4 hours'. The comparison between age groups is somewhat disjointed, and the data selection is not always clear or accurate. To improve, ensure that all figures are transcribed correctly from the source and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing individual data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow of ideas is often mechanical and sometimes confusing. The use of cohesive devices like 'In contrast' and 'Furthermore' is attempted, but the logical progression is hindered by the repetitive structure of the sentences. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when jumping between different age groups. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that leads logically into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'spent more time' and 'spent less time' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'old aged people' and 'peoples of 16-20 ages'. To improve, try to incorporate a more varied range of synonyms and descriptive verbs to avoid repetition. Using more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'figures for', 'accounted for', or 'a significant proportion', would also enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect article usage ('the the male'), subject-verb agreement ('the peoples... uses'), and punctuation errors, such as inconsistent spacing around commas and periods. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency will help improve your score in this area.
