Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all age groups and genders presented in the table. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the peak usage in the 16–20 age group and the decline in older populations. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the data trends, and some of the reporting is slightly mechanical. While you have made comparisons, such as noting the differences between genders, the structure could be improved by grouping the data more logically to highlight the most significant features rather than listing every data point. The summary is accurate but could be more analytical to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally mechanical (e.g., 'Moreover', 'Conversely', 'However'). The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is not always clear. For example, the phrase 'children from age group 11 to 15 were second on list' lacks a definite article and feels slightly disconnected from the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between the age categories would enhance the flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'spending average intervals' and 'active on internet', which are not the most natural collocations for this context. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'habitants' (should be 'inhabitants' or 'people') and 'adoloscence' (spelling error). To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'a significant proportion'. The range is sufficient to convey the main points, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Issues include missing articles ('on internet' instead of 'on the internet'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'younger male and female spent' should be 'younger males and females spent'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic articles and pluralisation would be highly beneficial.
