Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the table by comparing internet usage across European age groups and genders. While it identifies some main features, such as the overall higher usage by males in younger groups and mentions figures for various age brackets, the reporting contains inaccuracies and generalisations. For instance, the statement that internet is mostly used by European males in every age group is contradicted by the data provided in the latter age brackets where females often equal or exceed male hours. Furthermore, the data reporting is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, overarching summary of trends. Key features are partially covered, but the lack of precise and reliable data extraction pulls the score down to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, beginning with an introduction followed by body paragraphs detailing different age groups. However, the progression within and between paragraphs is clumsy and repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, as seen with transitional phrases like 'However,' and 'Moreover,' which do not logically connect the contrasting data points correctly. Referencing is often unclear, with pronouns like 'both' and 'they' failing to clearly link back to the intended subjects. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion requires better logical sequencing. Therefore, this aspect fits the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple phrases such as 'spent time on internet', 'hours', and 'age group'. There are noticeable lexical inadequacies and unnatural collocations, such as 'females loves to spent' and 'consumption on internet' instead of 'internet consumption'. Attempts to use a wider vocabulary are limited and frequently inaccurate, leading to expressions that impede smooth reading. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic topic, it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands, aligning firmly with Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex or compound structures that are often faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense and verb-form mistakes such as 'Both male and female spent time... while some loves to spent', 'males spent spent 2 hours', and missing articles. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled poorly, causing the reader some difficulty in places. Because of the frequent errors in basic structures, the grammar aligns with Band 4.0.
