Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student has adequately covered all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the table and making relevant comparisons. An overview is attempted, noting that internet access peaks in the 16 to 20 age group for both genders. Key data points, such as the peak usage of 19 hours for males and 18 hours for females aged 16-20, are correctly extracted and compared. The student also notes the general trends across younger and older age brackets, such as the lower usage among older groups (51+). While the writing is somewhat brief and relies on a single block paragraph rather than distinct sections, the essential information and comparisons required for Task 1 are present. This performance aligns well with Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks proper paragraphing, being presented as a single block of text (aside from the introduction sentence). This impacts the overall structural clarity and logical flow of the essay. Although cohesive devices such as 'while', 'on the other hand', and 'as far as' are employed, referencing can sometimes feel mechanical or awkward, such as the repetitive use of 'slightly higher' and 'approximately 1 hour'. The progression of ideas moves from the overview to specific age groups, but the lack of paragraph division prevents the information from being clearly structured and easily navigated. Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using terms like 'consumption', 'residents', 'average time', and 'steady rate'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'internet access leads in both genders' instead of 'internet usage is highest', and 'attaining again avverage of 8 hours' which contains a spelling error ('avverage'). The expression 'uniform difference in consumption of network' is also unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general message, these limitations and lexical errors prevent the response from achieving a higher band, fitting comfortably into Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, for example using subordinate clauses introduced by 'while' and 'as far as'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are run-on sentences and punctuation issues, such as missing commas before coordinating or contrasting clauses and unnecessary spacing errors (e.g., 'in residents'). Errors like 'quickly jumps' (subject-verb agreement issue with 'Male citizens... jumps') and missing prepositions (e.g., 'europe of different age groups' instead of 'Europe across different age groups') occur throughout. Because the attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors that cause some difficulty or hesitation for the reader, a Band 5.0 is warranted.
