Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.5

The response fails to fulfill the core requirements of an Academic Task 1 report. Instead of summarising the data, reporting main features, and making relevant comparisons, the student includes a large amount of irrelevant personal opinion and emotional commentary about mobile phone usage, health hazards, and parenting advice. While some data points from the table are mentioned, such as the 16-20 age group using around 18-19 hours and the 51+ age group, they are woven into a narrative that shifts the focus away from the visual data. The overview of the table is completely missing or inaccurate, as the student describes the data as 'very unpredictable' and injects strong personal bias. This falls well below the standard for Task Achievement, aligning closely with a band 3.0 or 4.0 due to the lack of objective reporting and heavy reliance on irrelevant argumentation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The organisation of the text is severely compromised. The response lacks a traditional paragraph structure, presenting almost all ideas in a single dense block of text or haphazardly split sentences. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as 'so, what about the other ages' and 'But still not good. If, their parent don't take any action...'. The progression of ideas is illogical, jumping abruptly from statistical figures to parenting advice and health warnings without smooth transitions. Referencing is also faulty, with pronouns like 'They' and 'You' lacking clear antecedents. Overall, the flow of the text is disjointed and frequently confusing to read, justifying a low band score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The lexical range is very basic and repetitive. The student relies heavily on simple vocabulary such as 'good', 'bad', 'use', 'hours', and 'mobile phone'. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, such as 'The highly use of mobile phones' instead of 'high usage', and 'have good performance in the use of mobile phones'. Spelling and morphological errors are also present, such as 'european' (uncapitalized), 'ages group', and 'parent' instead of 'parents'. While the vocabulary is just about sufficient to convey the basic subject matter, the frequent errors and lack of sophisticated academic terminology restrict the score to a band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and frequently faulty sentence structures. There are major structural errors throughout the response, including fragments ('the ages between 16-20.'), run-on sentences, and severe punctuation errors ('If, their parent don't take any action... their child were got stress'). Verb tense and agreement errors are common, such as 'child were got stress' and 'You give them mobile phone to your child's everyday'. The high density of grammatical errors causes noticeable difficulty for the reader and impedes clear communication in several places, which places the response firmly in the band 4.0 category.
