Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The student attempts to summarise the table by mentioning several key figures, such as the peak internet usage among those aged 16 to 20 (19 hours for males and 18 for females) and the drop in the 26-30 age group. However, there are notable comprehension errors, such as misinterpreting the 51+ category where males spend 2 hours and females 3 hours, yet the student writes that males spent two hours and women 'just spent three hours' while adding personal interpretations and irrelevant commentary not found in the prompt, such as 'this generation is focused on work more than losing her time' and moralising about kids above eleven. Furthermore, there is no clear overview paragraph summarising the overall trends. Task Achievement is therefore limited by these inaccuracies and digressions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks standard essay or report structure, failing to use appropriate paragraphing for an Academic Task 1 response. Sentences are chained together without clear logical progression or effective cohesive devices. Phrases like 'Based on the table', 'Indeed', and 'In the end of this analysis' are used awkwardly or mechanically. Pronoun referencing is frequently unclear, such as in the sentence 'which it becomes 4 hours for bowth genders', where 'which' has no clear antecedent. Transitions between the factual data and the student's personal opinions are jarring, resulting in an overall disjointed structure that hampers readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The student demonstrates a very basic and limited vocabulary range, frequently relying on simple terms and struggling with accurate word choices and collocations. Examples of lexical errors include 'average of hours spending', 'Nuneteenth hours' (intended for nineteen), 'depaased' (passed/exceeded), 'bowth' (both), 'statiscal' (statistical), and 'spended' (spent). There are also frequent issues with word forms, such as 'academics failures' instead of academic failure. While the core topic is discernible, the high frequency of word-choice and spelling errors impedes smooth communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the response, with frequent errors in sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. The text contains numerous flawed structures, such as 'The most people utilize internet are between sixteenth and twenty years old' and 'all individual must be aware of the time spended'. Tense usage is inconsistent, and attempts at complex or relative clauses often result in fragments or ungrammatical constructions (e.g., 'which can lead to concentration lost or academics failures'). Errors are pervasive and frequently cause difficulty for the reader.
