IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table depicts data on how many hours on average, males and females of Europe spent on Internet across various age groups. Overall, it can be seen that young to middle-aged eurpeon people spent more hours on internet on average as compared to the elder age group of individuals across Europe.

Looking at the details, the individuals of age group 16 to 20 spent the highest number of hours on the internet, with males 19 hours and females 18 hours. 8 hours were spend by males of age group 11-15 on the internet, which is half the number of hours (4 hours) spent by males of age ranging between 26 to 30. The females of age group 11-15 spent comparitively fewer hours on internet with an average of 6. However, the average of hours spent by females of age group 26-30 and 31-50 stayed at a consistent 4 hours. Males and females in their early twenties (age group 21-25) spent an average of 7 and 5 hours, respectively.

Middle-aged men of age group 31-50 spent 3 hours on average on the internet which is one hour less than that of females of the same age group. Individuals of ages over 51 years showed a similar pattern, with average hours spent on internet by males being 2 while 3 by females.
