IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given table illustrates the time devoted to the use of internet by the people of different ages. The unit used for the time here is in hour.

Overall, internet is abundantly used by teenagers with age range from 16 to 20 years and least used by the people who are in their early 50's. If we look from the broader point of view, male group of people, irrespective of which age category they lie, use internet more frequently than female.

To begin with the exact evaluation of table, Male and Female who are categorised in 11-15 age groups use internet 8 and 6 hours per day. As far as the male and female who are classified in 16-20 age groups use internet the most as compare to all other age groups, 19 hours in former and 18 hours in latter case. People from the 21-25 age groups utilise their time for internet with the exact values of 7 hours in case of male and 5 hours for female.

The use of internat is least common in the remaining age groups who are in their late 30's, 31-50 and above 50's. As far as 26-30 age groups are concerned, male and female both spend same amount of time i.e 4 hours a day. For 31-50 age groups male uses 3 hours while female uses 4 hours in a day to use social media. At the end, there comes the groups in which use of internet is least common, people who have the age above 50 years. Male of this old age uses 2 hours and female uses 3 hours of internet during a day.
