Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all key parts of the prompt by summarising the main features of the table and making relevant comparisons across age groups and genders. The overview correctly identifies the extreme points, noting that the 16-20 age group spent the most time on the internet while those aged 51 and over spent the least. Key data points are accurately reported, such as 19 hours for males and 18 hours for females in the 16-20 category. However, the explanation is sometimes weighed down by a mechanical listing of individual numbers rather than synthesizing broader trends, and there are minor inaccuracies in phrasing such as stating 'there is six age groups'. Nevertheless, the task is adequately fulfilled, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at paragraphing and sequencing information logically. The introduction gives a general overview, and body paragraphs attempt to group the data by age ranges. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitional phrases like 'Secondly, after the age group of 21-25 other age groups has similar time spent on internet.' Referencing and referencing words are occasionally unclear or repetitive, and cohesive devices are not always used flexibly. Paragraphing is present but somewhat disjointed. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic data and comparisons successfully. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary or descriptive phrases, such as 'average daily hours', 'divided by gender', and 'respective'. However, the lexical range is limited, and there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'has spent most time' instead of 'spent the most time', and 'people aged fifty one and over the least' omitting key verbs. Spelling is generally accurate, but awkward phrasing restricts the score. This performance fits the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical errors. Examples of errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('there is six age groups', 'other age groups has similar time'), missing prepositions, and awkward clause structures ('in which 19 hours for males'). Punctuation is basic. While these errors are noticeable and require the reader to occasionally re-read parts of sentences, they do not severely impede overall communication. The frequency and nature of these non-systematic errors place the response firmly at Band 5.5.
