The table gives information about the average hours spent on the Internet by European people of different age groups.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 8.0)

The table gives information about the average number of hours spent on the Internet by European males and females in different age groups.

Overall, people aged 16–20 spend the most time on the Internet, while those aged 51 and above spend the least. In most age groups, males spend slightly more time online than females, although the figures become equal among people aged 26–30.

Looking at the details, 16–20-year-olds have the highest Internet usage, at 19 hours for males and 18 hours for females per week. The figures then fall considerably among the 21–25 age group, with males spending 7 hours and females 5 hours. For people aged 11–15, the corresponding figures are 8 and 6 hours respectively.

Among the older groups, both males and females aged 26–30 spend 4 hours on the Internet. For those aged 31–50, females spend slightly more time online than males, at 4 hours compared with 3 hours. Finally, people aged 51 and above have the lowest figures, with males spending 2 hours and females 3 hours.
