Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, which keeps it at this level. While you successfully report some key data points from the table—such as the peak usage for the 16 to 20 age group (19 hours for males and 18 hours for females)—the selection of information lacks a clear overview and sufficient extension. Some details are presented in a mechanical, list-like manner, such as 'People from 11 years old to 15 years old spent 6 to 8 hours'. Furthermore, there are minor inaccuracies in reporting the data, such as stating that people aged 11 to 15 spent '6 to 8 hours' when the table specifically states 8 for males and 6 for females. To move to a higher band, you need to provide a clear, distinct overview of the main trends at the beginning or end of your report, and support all comparisons with accurate figures without simply listing row by row.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation in your writing, but it lacks a clear overall progression. You attempt to group information by age categories, but the progression between sentences can feel disjointed due to repetitive phrasing and weak transitions, such as 'On the second last' and 'At last'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body of the response is largely clustered into a single, dense block of text rather than being logically divided into an introduction, an overview, and well-structured body paragraphs comparing specific age brackets. Cohesive devices are used somewhat mechanically and repetitively. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus, use a wider variety of cohesive links smoothly to connect your ideas, and structure your response with distinct paragraphs for the introduction, overview, and supporting details.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary range is limited, though minimally adequate for the task. You rely heavily on basic, repetitive terms such as 'spent', 'hours', 'males', and 'females' throughout the text. There are also noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as using 'hightest hours spent' instead of 'highest number of hours' or 'peak usage', and 'such aged group of males'. Spelling and word formation are generally clear enough not to impede communication, but they lack precision. To improve your lexical score, you need to incorporate a wider range of vocabulary and synonyms—such as 'proportion', 'individuals', 'category', and 'considerable'—and demonstrate greater control over word formation and collocation when discussing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and basic subject-verb-object patterns. When you attempt more complex structures, they are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence: 'The table gives us the information about hours spent on the internet by european males and females of different age groups range from 11 years old to 51+ years old.' There are frequent errors in verb tenses and consistency (e.g., 'have spent', 'spent', 'spend'), missing articles (e.g., 'european', 'Male spent'), and prepositions (e.g., 'higher then'). These errors occur frequently and can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, you should practice using a wider mix of error-free complex structures and pay closer attention to verb tense consistency and article use.
