Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the table and making relevant comparisons across age groups and genders. A clear overview is provided at the beginning and reinforced in the conclusion, identifying the peak usage in late teens and the lowest usage among those aged fifty-one and over. Key data points, such as the highest average hours for males and females aged 16 to 20, are accurately cited and supported with specific figures from the table. While some details are treated in a somewhat repetitive listing style in the body paragraphs, the main trends are clearly identified and extended, leading to a strong overall summary of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure, moving from a general introductory overview to specific age-bracket comparisons and concluding with a summary. However, progression is sometimes hindered by mechanical transitions, such as the frequent repetition of 'As we look at' and 'If we look at', which makes the flow feel formulaic rather than naturally cohesive. Paragraphing is used to separate different sections of the data, but referencing within sentences can occasionally feel repetitive. To reach a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices to link ideas smoothly without relying on repetitive introductory phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'age group', 'utilizing', 'average hours', and 'genders'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes accompanied by minor inaccuracies in word choice or phrasing, such as 'spending most average hours' instead of 'spending the highest average number of hours'. Spelling is generally acceptable, though occasional awkward phrasing appears, such as 'old people' instead of 'older adults'. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice and collocations, reducing reliance on repetitive vocabulary like 'spending' and 'hours'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct compound statements and comparisons. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with missing or incorrect articles ('on internet' instead of 'on the internet', 'european people' with a lowercase letter), punctuation slips around dashes and periods (e.g., '16 -20', '51.So'), and prepositional choices. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they persist throughout the text and prevent the grammar from reaching a higher level of control. To improve, the writer must pay closer attention to article usage, spacing around punctuation marks, and structural accuracy.
