Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the table and making relevant comparisons across age groups and sexes. An appropriate overview is provided, highlighting the general downward trend with age and the shift in internet usage between males and females. The key data points, such as the peak of 19 hours for males aged 16-20, are accurately cited and supported. However, the overview tends to generalise slightly, stating that 'the higher the age the lower the amount of time', which does not fully capture the peak seen in early adulthood before the decline. To reach a higher band, the overview could be more nuanced, reflecting the specific life-stage trends more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text demonstrates a clear overall progression, moving logically from the youngest age group through to the oldest. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Starting off with', 'Afterwards', and 'However'. However, some elements of cohesion are a bit mechanical, and referencing is occasionally clumsy, such as starting the overview with a sentence fragment ('Overall. for most of the period...'). Furthermore, transitions between sentences could be smoother. To achieve the next level, the writer needs to ensure that cohesive devices link sentences with greater naturalness and that punctuation around structural links is used more accurately.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, successfully communicating numerical data and trends using terms such as 'average time', 'spiked', and 'gradually with age'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, including 'adolescent years' and 'whooping' (though misspelled or informal). However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, such as the typo 'versal' in 'vice versal' and awkward phrasing like 'the male sex' and 'the female gender' rather than 'males' and 'females'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present but do not impede communication. To move to a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate more precision in collocations, and eliminate spelling and word-form slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures like 'compared to 6 hours for the female gender'. There are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text, including punctuation flaws like the full stop in 'Overall. for', missing articles ('for 26-30 years', 'for 31-50 age group'), and repetitive phrasing ('the male gender spends/spends the most'). While some sentences are error-free, frequent minor errors in prepositions, agreements, and articles persist and prevent the writer from reaching a higher band. To improve, the writer needs to exercise better control over complex grammatical patterns, ensure correct article usage, and polish punctuation.
